Smile House Activity: Purnama Kalima Blessings & Art Therapy

The journey to a new smile is never easy, but the relief after a successful surgery is truly something special. Right now, our brave patients are resting and recovering at Smile House, waiting for their final check-ups before heading back to their hometowns. To keep their spirits high, we always try to fill their weekends with joy—like our Sunday bead-making sessions.
Healing Through Simple Crafts
Yesterday's bead-stringing activity turned our communal room into a lively, laughter-filled craft space. For the kids, picking up tiny colorful beads is a fun, stress-free way to practice their hand-eye coordination after surgery.
But it’s just as important for the parents. After the anxiety of waiting outside the operating room, sitting together and focusing on something as simple as threading a bracelet acts as a beautiful form of art therapy. It gives them a chance to finally relax, chat with other parents, and share a sense of relief.
Harmony Under the Full Moon
What made yesterday even more beautiful was a quiet harmony unfolding at the very same time. While the families were busy crafting, our Yayasan Senyum Bali team gathered at the office temple for a modest odalan (blessing ceremony) to mark the sacred day of Purnama Sasih Kelima (the full moon).
In Balinese culture, Purnama Sasih Kelima is a time to seek holy light and blessings. It felt incredibly fitting. Downstairs, there was the joyful chatter of families making beaded bracelets. Upstairs, there were quiet, heartfelt prayers from our staff asking for everyone’s continued healing, safety, and peace. It’s this lovely blend of medical care, emotional support, and spiritual devotion that truly makes Smile House a home.

The colorful bracelets the kids proudly wore by the end of the day are lovely souvenirs of their bravery. We couldn't provide this comforting space without the ongoing support of our donors, partners, and volunteers.
