The Smile Foundation of Bali is excited to announce its upcoming medical outreach program in Maumere, East Nusa Tenggara, where it will provide free surgeries for children with cleft lips and cleft palates. Medical outreach aims to provide health services to people in need, especially for children with cleft lip and palate.

The Importance of Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery

Cleft lip and palate are congenital conditions that can significantly impact a person’s quality of life, leading to physical challenges, difficulties with speech, and issues with eating that often result in malnutrition, as well as mental health problems due to social stigma. Surgical interventions can greatly improve nutritional absorption, directly impacting a child's growth and development. This not only boosts their confidence but also enables them to thrive academically and socially. Healthy individuals can attend school, pursue their dreams, and contribute meaningfully to their communities, fostering a vibrant society where everyone can reach their full potential.

Collaboration from Many Institutions

In this Medical Outreach, Smile Foundation of Bali is not alone. This is a collaboration between Smile Foundation of Bali Smile Train Indonesia, RSU ST. Gabriel Kewapante, and Kodam IX Udayana. This collaboration aims to maximize outreach and ensure that more individuals receive the assistance they need, particularly in terms of logistical support for accessing the surgery location.

Medical Team and Activity Implementation

Smile Foundation of Bali collaborates with a medical team consisting of 2 plastic surgeons, 1 anesthesiologist, 1 anesthesia care nurse and 2 surgical instrument nurses. They will provide safe and quality services during the event. The process of medical examination, consultation, and surgery will be carried out with care and professionalism.

Registration and Criteria

This activity is open to children aged at least 3 months for cleft lip, and 12 months for cleft palate. Registration can be done through the contacts available on Smile Foundation of Bali's social media. Acceptance criteria will be based on the medical and nutritional condition of the children.

The registration and pre-screening process will take place on November 21. Those who meet the pre-screening criteria, including weight relative to age, will proceed to lab tests. Once the doctor arrives, a physical examination will be conducted. The surgeries are scheduled to take place over two days: 10 to 12 patients on Friday, November 22, and another 10 to 12 on the next day.

Making it easier for them to have surgery

One of the reasons we organized the medical outreach is to make it easier for them to reach the nearest hospital. This is because most of them cannot leave their homes for surgery in Bali for one reason or another. For this reason, we bring our plastic surgeon team to the area where the patients are.

Give A Child A New Smile

This free surgery medical outreach is part of Smile Foundation of Bali's commitment to bring smiles to children in need. With the support of various parties, we are sure that many children in Maumere can benefit from this activity. Let's create a better world for future generations together!

Stay tuned for more details on the dates and how to register for this life-changing event!
