A House is Found!
After having The Smile House on our ‘wish list’ for some time, we have, at last, found funding to rent a small house close to Sanglah Hospital, Denpasar. We take possession on 19th January 2007. Grateful thanks go to Sanford Chee for giving us this chance.
Accommodation for Patients
There is an ongoing need for accommodation for patients from outlying areas coming to Sanglah Hospital for medical treatment or to attend clinics. Having the house will mean we no longer have to use local hotels – an expensive option.
The Smile House will accommodate patients with cleft lip and palate and other cranio-facial conditions from outlying areas attending clinics or while awaiting operations
Educational Programs
Having the house will enable us to establish an educational program, teaching mothers about the condition of cleft lip and palate, care for the patient after the operation and a general program of nutritional advice for mothers. We have recently seen several malnourished children in our Lombok 70 Project. Being malnourished may prevent a child from having a vital operation.
The Office
Very importantly, the house would also become the focal point of the work of Yayasan Senyum and enable the establishment of an office for the co-ordinator and volunteers. At the moment our records are at various locations.
On-going financial assistance will be needed to support the house. We have rented it for two years.
