The Last Three Months at Smile

Welcome to our new look. In this edition we present some facts and statistics of patients who have been attended to through Yayasan Senyum Bali.

Our outreach program for the Karangasem area which started in Januay 2OO9 is still going strong.

Between Februay and ApriI 2OO9, four patients have been sent

to the Australian Cranio Facial Unit in Adelaide for surgery... more information below.

Since the start of Yayasan Senyum Bali, we have been so grateful to have such valuable volunteers. Some have come and some have gone over the years but we have always been so glad of the help they have offered in the gifting of their time to our cause.

We also have two new staff members who have Just Joined us, see our staff section...

Adelaide Patients - Going and Coming Back

Between February and ApriI 2OO9, four patients have been sent to ACFU Adelaide for surgey. Sapirah and Zaeton, both from Lombok, are currently in Adelaide to have their surgery and treatments. Yuliani, a 9 year old girl also from Lombok, departed on 16th March and has now returned after successful surgey (see photos before and after-above right).

The fourth patient is Nyoman Mangku Astawa, our miracle baby who had his first surgey in Adelaide in 2OO7 and has now departed to Adelaide for his 2nd surgery. We wish all our patients well and we shall have more stories on them in future updates ...

Some Interesting Information...

Since 2OO5 Yayasan Senyum Bali has been responsible for at tending to 376 patients with cranio-facial abnormalities. These patients have varied in age from young babies of several months to adults over 5O years. The pie chart shows the breakdown by age during this time.

Yayasan Senyum Bali - Outreach Program Karangasem

Our Outreach Program in the Karangasem area is still going well with our Outreach Worker Komang Gede finding over ten patients who are in need of cranio-facial surgery. Dave and Christine (our two AVI Volunteers) visited Komang last month and were very impressed with the results he had achieved in such a short time. They were also glad to see how Komang and Yayasan Senyum Bali had been accepted into the community of the Karangasem area.

An Old Friend Returns to Sanur Smile Shop

We are pleased to welcome back our manager Do who has now returned to the Sanur Smile Shop. Many thanks to Angel for looking after the shop while Do was away in Holland.

During March & April we said goodbye to several valuable Volunteers from both Smile Shops. These Volunteers have left either because they were leaving the count or changing work commitments or even to take a well earned rest. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all who have participated in volunteering for Yayasan Senyum Bali, your contribution has been very gratefully received.

New Staff Members

We are delighted to welcome Ni Made Erawati (Era) and Helena S Arway (Helen) to the staff of Yayasan Senyum Bali.

Era has joined us as our new Patient Coordinator. She is an enthusiastic worker and a delightful person who shows great empathy towards our patients.

Helen is our new Marketing Officer who will look after all marketing and public relations for Yayasan Senyum Bali. She will be engaged in several marketing strategies for our organization and will continually promote Yayasan Senyum Bali to the community.
